DG Mohammad Mentek revealed that the RM79 million allocated in Budget 2014, Esscom received only RM7.97 million; the rest was channeled to the Home Ministry in Putrajaya.

KOTA KINABALU: East Sabah Security Command (Esscom) director-general Mohammad Mentek clarified that they only received RM11 million in the past two years and not the “hundreds of millions” as reported in the media.

“Most of the allocation was used to pay the wages of our security personnel, which consists only a total of 48 officers,” said Mentek.

The government had announced an allocation of RM200 million from its emergency funds when Lahad Datu was invaded to fund Ops Daulat.

However, according to Mentek, Esscom was provided with only RM2.97 million while out of the RM79 million allocated to Esscom in budget 2014, the command only received RM7.97 million.

The rest was channeled to the Home Ministry.

Mentek also reiterated that Esscom served only in a coordinating position and has no jurisdiction to give orders to the security enforcers they oversee.
