Ban Mais’ book on threat of Christianisation

The anti Christianity forum and the book contradicts nation building, is a human rights issue and must be stopped..

KOTA KINABALU: UPKO Youth Chief Arthur Sen has echoed concerns of civil groups and a Christian organisation over a forum held at Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) yesterday, which warned Muslims against the threat of Christianisation and belittled the Bible as containing “tales”.

Arthur also called for the government to ban a book published by the Selangor Islamic Council (Mais) on the threat of Christianisation and alleged evangelism among Muslims in Malaysia which were also distributed to more than 1,000 students who attended the seminar.

According to a news portal, the book titled “Pendedahan Agenda Kristian”, contained a warning to Muslims to watch out for “tricks” by Christians to sway Muslims from their faith.

The book also said that the main reason there was apostasy among Muslims ‎was because of Christianisation.

In a response issued here today, Arthur said that such forums should not be held in a multi-racial and multi-religious country like Malaysia where its people live in high tolerance of each other.

Human rights issue

He especially reminded that when Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak took over the government, he promoted 1Malaysia, a concept of acceptance.

“So in order to form a nation, we must accept the diversity of the people in Malaysia, we are multi-racial and multi religious.

“That is the country’s identity and we must accept that our multi-racial and multi-religious rakyat have used tolerance as the basis for unity”, he stressed.

“I want to know what the intention is, what does the organisor want to achieve from the forum,” he said adding that the forum will create a sense of fear among Christians in the country.

“As far as I am concerned, this is not about the issue of religion but of human rights. This is not good for nation building as it will segregate the people and create the wrong perception.”

Arthur said that the forum should not have been held in a government university as it contradicts national building.

“Did the organisor get approval from the Education Ministry or the University authorities to conduct such a forum? I urge them to please stop such activities.”

He added that such forums would defeat the purpose of the Interfaith Department set up by the government.
