Temporary setback for defector Malajad

Friday, 28 March 2014

Neither PBS nor former Kadamaian rep Herbert Timbun Lagadan seemed to be concerned about other PKR members who are officially joining PBRS tomorrow.

KOTA BELUD: Kadamaian assemblyman Jeremy Ukoh Malajad’s plan to join a Barisan Nasional (BN) component party tomorrow is only temporarily dashed, according to his inner circle.

The former PKR leader was set to hand over his membership form to PBRS tomorrow but his application form has now been taken out from the about 1,000 forms to be handed to PBRS president Joseph Kurup.

Adamantly opposing Malajad’s joining BN is the former Kadamaian assemblyman Herbert Timbun Lagadan. Malajad defeated him in the 2013 general elections.

Lagadan, an assistant secretary-general of PBS, has charged that it is unacceptable to him and PBS to admit Malajad into BN now when it was him who worked against and defeated the BN candidate only a few months ago.

Neither Lagadan nor PBS have raised a stink about the other former opposition members who wanted to join BN, including the almost 1,000 at tomorrow’s event at a community hall in Kampung Sorob near here.

Initially, the PBRS function was to be held at Malajad’s residence in the remote Kampung Tengkurus, however it was moved to Sorob, which is just adjacent to the military Kem Paradise here, to accommodate more people and that is closer to the town.

“YB Jeremmy will join later lah, so Timbun and PBS would not be angry. If Timbun and PBS are unhappy and so want, they can come and try to stop the 1,000 people who wanted to join PBRS tomorrow lah,” claimed an aide of Malajad here today.

According to him, Malajad would be at the function tomorrow to show solidarity with his supporters who had wanted him to join BN via the small party of PBRS.

A check with Malajad’s office in town was met with persistent comments that “the YB is busy managing the event tomorrow”. This implied Malajad is very much already a PBRS man.

But others in Malajad’s camp are concerned, arguing that the sooner he joins a BN component, the better for him to be involved in development plannings for his constituency, the very reason Malajad said he quit PKR months ago.

Meanwhile, PBRS secretary general, Johnson Tee, confirmed that Malajad had sent in his application but the party’s supreme council had yet to make a decision over his membership.

Tee however claimed that those to be accepted into PBRS tomorrow are former former PKR members.
