KENINGAU: The jungle trail on Crocker Range cannot be opened to tourists because of the lack of basic facilities, especially water supply.
Chairman of Sabah Parks Board of Trustees, Tengku Dr Zainal Adlin said the jungle trail has potential to become a major tourist draw for Sabah.
The 28 kilometre jungle trail from Jalan Penampang-Tambunan to Jalan Kimanis-Keningau was found during a 12-day exploration in 1992.
“Without water, we (Sabah Parks) cannot open the jungle trail to tourists,” he told a tourism products seminar at Manis-Manis Resort, here yesterday.
Tengku Adlin said the jungle trail is challenging as it passes through a salt trail and need big improvement in basic facilities and safety aspects.
“The trail is hilly with a height of 4,000 to 5,000 metres above sea level and unique as we can view Teluk Kimanis and Lembah Keningau, not to mention the flora and fauna.”
