Still waiting for SPNB homes

Wednesday, 11 December 2013

PENAMPANG: Three years on and house buyers who expected to move into their new Syarikat Perumahan Negara Berhad (SPNB)-built residences in 2010 are still waiting to find out when they will be allowed to do so.

Not anytime soon, as far as one of the national housing agency’s customers is concerned.

The purchaser who declined to be named said he had just received several thousand ringgit in compensation for the delay from the Sabah branch of government housing agency along with hundreds of fellow house buyers affected by the delay in completion of the medium-cost apartment Vista Minintod near here.

He said SPNB started doling out the compensation money a few weeks ago.

However, while welcoming the compensation payments he is also alarmed that the housing agency has not given any indication when the affected house buyers can move in to their new houses.

He wants to know how long more he and his family have to wait for the completion of the four-storey walk-up apartments.

He fears the long delay in the completion of the project and the compensation payments are hiding a problem that the housing agency is finding it difficult to solve quickly.

“In fact the recent one is the second time SPNB paid us compensation.

The first time was in October last year and just a smaller amount was paid, he said and gave the figure of “between RM1,000 to RM2,000”.

This year the amount paid out is according to the contract agreement.

While declining to reveal the amount he had received he revealed that the quantum was between RM5,000 to RM10,000 depending on the length of period house buyers have been paying their installment.

The compensation payment to house buyers was made through cheques and handed out at the Donggongon Public Library near here two months ago, he said.

“I bought a unit in 2008 when SPNB promised to complete Vista Minintod by 2010 but now it is already the end of 2013 and we are still waiting for our unit.”

Due to the delay, he said, he and his family are forced to pay rental for their present temporary housing as well as the monthly installment for their new, yet-to-be-completed apartment.

Vista Minintod, located behind the Road and Transport Department (JPJ) building here, is being undertaken by SPNB and is meant to cater for those earning below RM2,000 who cannot afford to buy houses costing more than RM130,000.

Nevertheless, the disgruntled house buyers are relieved that SPNB is adhering to the contract provisions stipulated in the sales and purchase agreement.

SPNB has so far not issued any statement on the compensation to the effected house buyers.
